A lot of my clients and friends (myself included) found themselves at some point asking “should we stay in the city, or make the move to the burbs?” The suburbs tend to offer “more for your money” but for those that work in downtown Chicago, is it worth it?
Yes, the Metra makes it worth it! The Metra is a luxurious way to commute! When city folk talk about “the train” they are often times talking about the El. Years ago as a daily CTA rider, I used to lump all trains into the same category when I thought of commuting. I WAS WRONG. The Metra train is faster, cleaner, quieter, on time and reliable. It’s a great way to commute to downtown. I can honestly say, it changed my life. I moved to La Grange to a sprawling ranch with a yard, garage and driveway! Unheard of things for my budget in Lincoln Park. The BNSF train was two blocks away and I was downtown in 17 minutes. Amazing.
Look at what the suburbs have to offer
My advice to those contemplating considering a suburban shift, take a look at what’s out there. Different housing options are available near a Metra station for quick and easy Chicago access. Plus a suburb like La Grange has a wonderful, walk-able downtown area with shops, restaurants and bars. Before renting again in the city, take a look at what you could own in the suburbs of Chicago for the same or less monthly cost than you pay now all while building equity!
Here is a perfect example of what’s available in today market. 2 Bed/2 Bath renovated condo with 2 parking spots included. Walk to the train in minutes, walk to all things downtown. Available for $289,000!
I will be there this Sunday from 1-3pm, come by and view the unit in person. Walk to downtown for lunch and see what it’s like to be a suburbanite!
